Imagine 1,800 United States flags, each measuring 3 by 5 feet and flying atop 7½ foot tall white flagstaffs. Not just imagination, this stunning vista becomes reality during the second week of November as the Georgetown Rotary brings its 8th Annual Field of Honor® event to GISD – Hammerlun Education Administration Field. This display of the Stars & Stripes illustrates the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” as the U.S. flag symbolizes the countless acts of service offered by those honored.
Each flag purchased and dedicated will sponsor a service animal or honor a veteran, currently serving member of the armed forces or a first responder.
If you have already dedicated a flag for your hero or don’t have a name in mind of a person to honor, ADOPT-A-HERO gives you the opportunity to honor someone who may otherwise be overlooked. You can honor a person serving in one of the military branches or a first responder, and the dedication tag will be forwarded to an appropriate leader at the Field of Honor® display’s conclusion.
The Georgetown Field of Honor® is a gift to the community made possible through donations, sponsorships and the efforts of many dedicated volunteers. You can show your support and gratitude by sponsoring a flag or making a donation.
All are invited to visit the Field of Honor® flag display and support the Rotary Club of Georgetown in presenting an inspiring and memorable event that will draw area residents together to honor those who serve to protect our lives and freedom.
